A 78-year-old church building in Loyal Heights will be torn down and its lot split into three residential parcels.

Legacy Capitol Group bought the former Vine Baptist Church at 7750 21st Ave NW for just over $2 million in April 2025, as first reported by My Ballard. The company filed a land use application with Seattle's Department of Construction and Inspections (SDCI) in February to subdivide the site into three unit lots for single-family or duplex construction.

SDCI issued its decision on the subdivision Oct. 8, according to the city's permit record. The appeal period runs through Thursday, Oct. 22. The three new lots have been assigned addresses at 7748, 7750 and 7752 21st Ave NW. A separate construction permit covers the residential units themselves.

The building dates to 1948, when it opened as Mount Olive Lutheran. That congregation operated for decades before merging with Our Savior Lutheran and Zion Lutheran in 2008 to form Lamb of God Evangelical Lutheran Church, which holds services at 12509 27th Ave NE.

Vine Baptist Church moved into the Loyal Heights building in 2008. The congregation lost its lease in January 2025 and relocated temporarily to a member's home in Shoreline before closing permanently.

No demolition date or construction timeline has been announced.
