The publicly owned street end at the south tip of 24th Ave NW sits at the edge of Ballard's working waterfront, south of Shilshole Ave NW and NW 54th St. A coalition wants to turn it into a park, and the Aug. 8 Ballard ArtWalk is residents' chance to weigh in.

The Ballard Waterfront Park Coalition, affiliated with Sustainable Ballard, is hosting a community input session during Saturday's ArtWalk at the 24th Ave NW Shoreline Street End. The event runs from 6 to 9 p.m. alongside the rest of the monthly art walk, which brings local artists into businesses across the neighborhood.

The coalition's street-end event will also feature artwork, including John Fleming's "Message Wall" and totems by Jay Lazerwitz, according to the official Ballard ArtWalk Instagram account. Attendees can learn about the waterfront park proposal and provide input on the project's direction.

The ArtWalk itself

The Ballard ArtWalk, organized by the Ballard Alliance, has run on the second Saturday of each month since 1997. Admission is free.

More than a dozen venues are participating Aug. 8. A sampling: Kimberly Gracie Hernandez at Anchored Ship Coffee Bar, Carlos Lagos at Columbia Bank, Mike Holm at Kiss Cafe, Lisa Britton at Shiku Sushi, and Dean Pagano at The Stray Fox. Artists are showing photography, ceramics, paintings and mixed media across the neighborhood.

Four "Sweet Stroll Stops" round out the evening: A La Mode, Hot Cakes, Spice Waala and Dough Joy.
