Ballard's first-ever Pride festival takes over Ballard Avenue on Friday, with a jumbo screen showing World Cup matches. Here's what's happening in the neighborhood this week.
Friday: Regnbue Pride Festival & World Cup Watch Party
The inaugural Regnbue festival — the name means "rainbow" in Norwegian and Danish, a nod to Ballard's Scandinavian roots — takes over the intersection of 22nd Ave NW and Ballard Ave NW on Friday, June 26, from 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Visit Ballard, the neighborhood business association organizing the event, will close the north side of Ballard Ave NW and 22nd Ave NW to traffic for the day. Three FIFA World Cup matches will play on a jumbo screen, including what organizers are billing as the Pride Day Match between Iran and Egypt. Emcee Sativa The Queen opens the festivities; DJ SummerSoft provides music all day.
The free, all-ages festival includes food from Rough and Tumble Pub, Spice Waala, and Skål Beer Hall. Kids' activities are hosted by Illumination Learning Studio and the National Nordic Museum. Ballard FC and Salmon Bay FC will run a soccer activity area. Local artists Sharon Blyth-Moss and Shayla Hufana are leading community-painted mural panels with Pride Match Day designs.
The event is produced with support from SEATTLEFWC26 and the Seattle Office of Arts & Culture.
Saturday: Sustainable Ballard's 17th Annual Edible Garden Tour
Sustainable Ballard's Edible Garden Tour runs Saturday, June 27, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. across Southeast Ballard and the west Woodland area. Pick up maps at Collective Chemistry, 5201 11th Ave NW, and walk or bike a self-guided route through neighborhood gardens.
Stops include Greg's Garden (a local P-Patch), the restaurant garden at Brimmer & Heeltap, a mini farm feeding two families, and a permaculture plot. Admission is a $15 donation; free for Sustainable Ballard supporting members and children 10 and under. Raffle tickets ($5 for two) offer prizes including gift cards to local restaurants. Volunteers still needed and receive a complimentary tour ticket; sign up at sustainableballard.org.
