The 38th annual Earshot Jazz Festival opens Wednesday, Oct. 7, with more than 30 shows at venues across Seattle through Oct. 25.
Tickets range from $23 for a late-night set on Beacon Hill to $130 for the festival's marquee concert downtown. Senior, student and military discounts are available for many shows, and the full lineup is at earshot.org.
The festival's opening weekend carries two of its strongest draws, as first reported by The Seattle Times.
On Friday, Oct. 9, a book-release concert at Black & Tan Hall (5608 Rainier Ave. S.) celebrates the second edition of "Jackson Street After Hours" by Earshot co-founder Paul de Barros. The book, updated for the first time since its 1993 publication, chronicles the Central District corridor where Quincy Jones, Ray Charles and Ernestine Anderson once performed. Black & Tan Hall takes its name from one of the dozens of after-hours clubs that once lined that stretch. Tickets are $44; doors open at 7:30 p.m. Seattle saxophonist Sidney Hauser, the festival's 2026 resident artist, performs.
The next night, Saturday, Oct. 10, saxophonist Branford Marsalis and vocalist Dianne Reeves bring their Coltrane tribute to Town Hall (1119 Eighth Ave.) at 8 p.m. Their album "Dedicated to You" marks the centennial of John Coltrane's birth. Tickets are $50–$130.
Shows span neighborhoods for the rest of the run. Saxophonist Gary Bartz, 86, brings his NTU Troop to Triple Door on Sunday, Oct. 11. Seven-time Grammy nominee Julian Lage plays Moore Theatre on Thursday, Oct. 15. Pianist Kiefer Shackelford, fresh off his Blue Note debut, takes the stage at Nectar Lounge in Fremont on Friday, Oct. 16.
Two Oct. 23 shows open the final weekend with local ties. Seattle trumpeter Ahamefule J. Oluo celebrates his new album at Black & Tan Hall at 7:30 p.m., backed by saxophonist Skerik and drummer D'Vonne Lewis. Later that night on Beacon Hill, Seattle-born drummer Bobby Granfelt returns from Los Angeles to release his double album "TACKYY" at Clock-Out Lounge (4864 Beacon Ave. S.) at 9:30 p.m.
The full schedule and tickets are at earshot.org.
