Democratic U.S. Rep. Pramila Jayapal is seeking reelection in Washington's 7th Congressional District in the Nov. 3, 2026, general election. Republican Nirav Sheth is the other candidate, according to King County Elections' general-election list.

Jayapal was first elected to Congress in 2016, according to her official House biography. Her district includes much of Seattle and nearby communities. The biography identifies her as the first South Asian American woman elected to the U.S. House.

Her congressional work includes the Judiciary, Foreign Affairs and Budget committees. Her office says she is the ranking Democrat on the Judiciary subcommittee covering immigration enforcement and serves as chair emerita of the Congressional Progressive Caucus.

The official biography describes work on Medicare for All, affordable housing, immigrant rights, domestic workers' protections and clean energy. These descriptions summarize her office's account of her legislative priorities; they do not establish that every proposal became law.

Before elected office, Jayapal worked in public health and development at PATH and founded the immigrant-rights organization OneAmerica. Her biography lists study at Georgetown University and an MBA from Northwestern University.
