Knitters of all skill levels can gather beachside at Golden Gardens Park this Saturday for Seattle's free Worldwide Knit in Public Day celebration, hosted by Ballard-based Row House Knitting.
The event runs 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Tables 1–7 on June 13, near Shelter #1 in the park's picnic area.
Bring your own yarn and needles. Row House says on its Eventbrite listing that beginners who want instruction should let organizers know in advance: "We will try our best to have someone teach you, but we can't promise it."
Worldwide Knit in Public Day, founded in 2005 by Danielle Landes, falls on the second Saturday of June each year. Its organizers describe it as the largest knitter-run event in the world. Row House, an online yarn shop founded in 2016 by two friends who met at a Knit Night, is based in Ballard at 2400 NW 80th St.
Rain Gilman of Sustainable Ballard promoted the gathering on the organization's website, writing that crafters will have "sand and beach right in front of you" with views of Puget Sound and the Olympic Mountains.
Attendees can walk, bike, bus, or drive to the park at 8498 Seaview Place NW. No registration fee, but organizers ask that participants RSVP through the Eventbrite page.
Knitters who want to stay connected after Saturday can join the Sustainable Ballard Knitters' monthly Tuesday meetups, 7–9 p.m. at Old Stove Gardens, 1550 NW 49th St. The next sessions are Tuesday, July 14 and Tuesday, August 11.
