Garmon Newsom is running for Seattle Municipal Court Judge, Position 5, in the November 3, 2026, general election. King County Elections lists Gabe Rothstein as the other candidate in this nonpartisan race.

In his current county voter-pamphlet statement, Newsom describes 34 years in public service, including prosecution, municipal law, civil litigation, service on the King County Ethics Board and temporary judicial work. He lists his occupation as a Seattle Municipal Court judge pro tempore and former city attorney.

Newsom lists a bachelor’s degree in political science from Morehouse College and a law degree from George Washington University.

His statement emphasizes fair application of the law, access to the courts and public safety. He says he wants to protect the community while making diversion, treatment and support available to defendants. These qualifications and goals are attributed to Newsom’s own candidate statement.
