Nyjat Rose-Akins is running for King County West District Court Judge, Position 1, in the November 3, 2026, general election. King County Elections lists Bardi Martin as the other candidate in the nonpartisan race.
Rose-Akins’s campaign says she served in the Seattle City Attorney’s Office from 2010 to 2023, first as an assistant city prosecutor and later in civil practice as a precinct liaison attorney. Her campaign describes experience with misdemeanor cases, Mental Health Court and Community Court, followed by work on municipal issues including police accountability and neighborhood concerns.
She says she has served as a judge pro tempore and currently serves as a court commissioner pro tempore in King County. The campaign lists civil protection orders and contested involuntary-treatment hearings among her commissioner responsibilities.
Her biography lists a bachelor’s degree in international business and finance from Howard University and a law degree from Seattle University earned in 2008. It also describes volunteer work assisting homeowners facing foreclosure and service with legal and scholarship organizations.
Rose-Akins emphasizes listening before deciding and treating each person before the court with dignity. These descriptions of her career and judicial approach are drawn from her own campaign materials.
