Flau'jae Johnson scored 17 points Saturday, Sept. 19, in San Francisco, and nobody else on the Seattle Storm reached double figures.

The 70-57 loss to the Golden State Valkyries dropped Seattle to 8-34, tying the WNBA single-season record for losses set by the Dallas Wings and Chicago Sky in 2025. Two games remain.

One more defeat sets the record outright.

The only other time the Storm finished without double-digit wins was their 2000 inaugural season, when they went 6-26 in a shorter schedule. Seattle sits at the bottom of the WNBA standings, two wins behind the Connecticut Sun.

Golden State outscored Seattle 28-6 in the second quarter and led by as many as 32. The Storm rallied in the third quarter but stalled late, barely avoiding a new season-low scoring mark.

Johnson, the No. 8 overall pick in the 2026 WNBA Draft, was emotional in the postgame news conference and gave one brief answer before fellow rookie Awa Fam stepped in.

"It's not easy when you are on a team that you're losing, losing, losing, and you're trying," Fam said.

Fam added eight points and a team-high nine rebounds. The Seattle Storm said on X that Fam became the youngest player in WNBA history to reach 200 career rebounds during the game. Dominique Malonga also scored eight points.

Johnson has been the franchise's steadiest performer all season. In the Friday, Sept. 18, loss to Las Vegas, she became the first rookie in Storm history to reach 500 points and 50 three-pointers in the same season. She now has 18 games of 15 or more points, second-most by a Storm rookie, according to the Seattle Times.

In an Aug. 30 interview with the Seattle Times, Johnson acknowledged the toll of the season but committed to Seattle's future. "Year 2 is going to be better," she said.

Head coach Sonia Raman said her young players care deeply about winning and felt the sting of the second-quarter collapse. The Storm were without Ezi Magbegor (knee), Jordan Horston (shoulder), Katie Lou Samuelson (knee) and Zia Cooke (knee). Guard Jade Melbourne left at halftime with an illness after also missing the Friday, Sept. 18, game.

Kaila Charles led Golden State with 16 points and 12 rebounds before a sellout crowd of 18,064 at Chase Center.

Seattle plays at Las Vegas on Sunday, Sept. 20, then closes the season at home against Dallas at Climate Pledge Arena.
