Leave the pop-up tent and the dog at home. Magnolia Playfield's biggest weekend of the year kicks off on the last day of July and for the first time, organizers are banning personal shade canopies and pets from the grounds.
Magnolia Summerfest 2026 runs Friday, July 31, through Sunday, Aug. 2, at Magnolia Playfield (W. Smith St. and 33rd Ave. W). The free, three-day festival is presented by the Magnolia Chamber of Commerce and has been a designated Seafair Community Event since 1985.
Why the tent ban?
Organizers posted the policy change on the festival's website July 22, citing fire marshal requirements and alcohol-licensing concerns. The fire marshal prohibits clustering more than four 10-by-10 tents without 10 feet of separation between them, and organizers said open alcohol consumption inside tent "camps" put the beer garden license at risk.
Attendees can still bring chairs and picnic blankets. The festival will provide communal "Share the Shade" tents throughout the playfield.
Dogs are also banned for the first time. Organizers cited incidents of overstimulated animals biting in past years.
The lineup
Saturday's headliner is King Youngblood, the Seattle-based alt-rock band led by guitarist Cameron Lavi-Jones.
Their 2022 album Big Thank landed on the Seattle Times' Top 20 Albums list that year, and the band is recording a new record, outrun your shadow, at London Bridge Studios for a fall 2026 release.
Friday night features six acts capped by '90s cover band Altered 90s at 8:30 p.m., followed by an outdoor screening of The Sandlot at dusk. Sunday closes with Massy Ferguson and Left Hand Smoke in the afternoon.
Seafair parade
The annual Seafair parade steps off at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 1. The route starts at the Magnolia Community Center, heads south on 34th Avenue West, turns east on West McGraw Street, and continues north on 32nd Avenue West to Albertsons.

What to know before you go
Admission is free. The Vendor Village includes dozens of craft and commercial booths plus nonprofits like the Magnolia Historical Society and Cub Scout Pack 80. Parking is limited around the playfield. Volunteers and donors can sign up on the festival website.
