The Seattle Seahawks are Super Bowl champions, and on Thursday, June 11, they finally have the hardware to prove it.
Players received their Super Bowl LX rings in a private ceremony at the Virginia Mason Athletic Center in Renton, capping a minicamp that wrapped earlier that day. The rings were lowered from the ceiling in illuminated boxes to each player's table. Defensive lineman Leonard Williams said the night before felt like Christmas Eve.
"It was hard for me to go to sleep," Williams said. "I was waking up at like 3, 5 a.m. just excited."
The ring itself is a spectacle. Designed by Jason Arasheben of Jason of Beverly Hills, each weighs about a third of a pound and features 20 carats of white diamonds and blue sapphires, two Lombardi Trophies, and a hidden button shaped like the 12th Man flag. Press it and miniature Lumen Field arches pop out to reveal the words "WORLD CHAMPIONS." Inside: a piece of game-used football and the inscription "17 WINS."
Sam Darnold, the 29-year-old quarterback who threw five playoff touchdowns without a turnover en route to the franchise's second title, was in attendance alongside Jaxon Smith-Njigba and Williams. So was Super Bowl MVP Kenneth Walker III, who signed a three-year deal with the Kansas City Chiefs this offseason worth up to $43.05 million. Head coach Mike Macdonald didn't mince words about his quarterback's doubters during minicamp.
"This guy's the man, and his teammates love him, and he's competitive as crap, and he's tough, and he's really talented, and he's a winner," Macdonald said. "Don't let me write the story."
For fans in Queen Anne, Ballard, and Magnolia, the summer calendar is loaded. Training camp opens to the public Saturday, July 25 at the VMAC in Renton, with 10 total open practices running through Wednesday, August 13. Tickets are free, but there's a $15 shuttle fee from The Landing shopping center in Renton. Public registration opens Tuesday, June 16 at seahawks.com/training-camp; season-ticket holders get early access Monday, June 15.
The annual Football Fest moves to Lumen Field on Saturday, August 8 at 5:20 p.m. The Seahawks will also be featured on HBO's Hard Knocks this summer.
The season opener is Wednesday, September 9 at 5:20 p.m. PT against the Patriots at Lumen Field on NBC/Peacock. The franchise will raise its championship banner before kickoff.
Thursday's final practice tipped toward the defense. Safety D'Anthony Bell grabbed a pick-six off backup Jalen Milroe, one of three interceptions on the day. First-round pick Jadarian Price caught a red-zone touchdown from Drew Lock. The team reported no new injuries.
New offensive coordinator Brian Fleury, a former 49ers tight ends coach who has never called plays at any level, replaces Klint Kubiak (now the Raiders' head coach). In Wednesday's walk-through session, Darnold sailed a pass wide of Smith-Njigba at half-speed and dropped his head in disgust.
The Seahawks confirmed a joint practice with the Tennessee Titans in Nashville, tentatively set for Thursday, August 21, before a preseason game on Saturday, August 23.
